Agreed, except that IMHO it should be the standard (in some other
drivers) Option "DRI", the default of which should be something like

      * (at least problematic) r300 cards: disabled
      * other cards: current behaviour (enabled if the "dri" module is
        loaded, disabled otherwise)

When the option is enabled explicitly, the driver should load the "dri"
module if necessary.

This option will also be useful to manage which of several cards enables
the DRI.

Now, somebody get his hands dirty. :)
