I'm not used at all to work on x86 processors, nor am I with PCI or AGP, so what follows may be complete nonsense... Isn't it also important to know the exact stream of commands sent to the core ? I mean, as it is apparently known where the registers are, or what the commands to send to the gpu are, isn't it possible to put some watchpoints at specific locations, and see whet fglrx is doing ? Now, I'm not sure if x86 supports watchpoint on iomem...
