Ah scratch that, wrote too fast. This if of course not an issue, since
you can address the alpha and rgb regs separately too. I just didn't do
it due to the added complexity, and because I'm not sure it would help
that much in practice to avoid the fallback - how often are different
sources for rgb and alpha used?
