Fixed it.
Sorry. It isn't an r300 problem... Or at least doesn't LOOK like an
r300 problem. I changed the xorg.conf & set
Option "EnablePageFlip" "on" # [<bool>]
to
Option "EnablePageFlip" "off" # [<bool>]
and the flickering went away...
