It's a known problem, you can work around it by adding
Option      "DDCMode" "on"
to the Device section of your xorg.conf

Something in the radeon driver screws up when validating modes (compare
xrandr output with and without ddcmode on) on lcd panels connected via
dvi. There's a bugzilla entry for it, but I don't have the number at
hand.
