Just a quick bump to this earlier question which never
seemed to get a reply, the mode switching *IS* broken
on IGP 34x series at least, I've got an HP Pavilion
ze5385us laptop with the IGP345 series chipset in it,
and mode switching has been broken for at least 3-4
months, maybe longer.
A bit of further info on this is that it only blanks
when switching to a lower res mode than the topmost
default. IE I'm running 1400x1050 for my desktop.
Switching to any lower mode via xvidtune causes the
screen to go black. However given a set of modelines,
it will unblank as soon as it returns to 1400x1050.
I've verified this behavior using combinations of all
lower resolutions and it behaves the same way, 800x600
and 640x480, blanks on 640x480 and returns when
switched back to 800x600.
This problem appears to be related to the downgrade to
4.3.99.12 since I reinstalled a copy of 4.3.99.902
XFree86 patched to support IGP 3D, then copied just
the libGL and radeon_dri.so over and the mode
switching problem I believe went away (it came back a
while later, and I don't remember what I would've
fiddled with).
Anyhow, sorry for the long post and I hope some of
this info might prove useful in tracking down the
issue. If not, maybe I'll go fix it myself if I find
it enough of a bother, but don't count on it ;p
