Hello, Yesterday I finally decided to get HW acceleration running on my laptop (Vaio PCG-Z600LEK). The graphics card needs the mach64 driver. I am running Debian unstable 2.4.25 with XFree86 4.3.0-7
In the past I have tried compiling from the DRI cvs, but first it was broken, then I found out I did not have enough disk space (you would think 700MB would be enough :-S). Anyway, gave up on that. Yesterday I tried the snapshots. I tried 20040328, 20040319 and a random one from February. The kernel module compiled and installed fine (in fact I'm running it now). Having installed the 'extra' XFree86 run file HW X loaded HW acceleration. Unfortunately it then threw out the following error: --- <-snip-> (II) ATI(0): [drm] Mapped 128 DMA buffers at 0x4122c000 (II) ATI(0): [drm] Installed interrupt handler, using IRQ 9 (II) ATI(0): Direct rendering enabled (==) RandR enabled Required symbol xf86I2CGetScreenBuses from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers /atimisc_drv.o is unresolved! Fatal server error: Some required symbols were unresolved --- As a result, X never manages to load. Having tried the 3 snapshots I gave up. Instead I installed some unofficial Debian packages and that finally got it working. I thought I'd let you know though, as the snapshot installer told me to report any problems I had to this list.
