I'm not following this thread very closely, but there is a standalone
framebuffer driver already in the tree, mesa/drivers/dri/fb. Is that what you
mean by a DRI pseudo-hardware driver?

We we get to a world of OpenGL as the low level driver interface, I was going to
use the fb driver to support older hardware.
