after a long odyssey getting xfree86 dri to work (seemingly), everything
behaves as expected, except that the gl window (also fullscreen) remains
black; fps is being reported as usual (4300), no error messages appear,
neither in the server log nor the kernel log, no hangups, no crashes,
nothing - just the black (otherwise well-behaving) window.

the only unusual thing is a message on stderr from glxinfo/glxgears:
'unknown chip id, assuming full radeon support'
according to the server log, the chip gets correctly recognized, though.

using sw rendering (by simply not loading xmodule dri) works fine.

everything has been taken care of:

kernel 2.6.0-test9 from kernel.org, agpgart and intel chipset helper
module compiled in (configuring them as modules produces the infamous
'radeon_cp_init' error - 'agp not available' sequence).

gentoo xfree-4.3.0-r3 base installation, updated w/ xfree86 dri trunk from
cvs as of 11/09/03; drm kernel module radeon.ko in use.

toshiba tecra s1, radeon mobility 9000, lcd 1600x1200, gentoo 1.4

on my sony vaio grx, radeon 7500, everything works fine, (kernel 2.4,
gentoo xfree-4.3.0-r2 and xfree-drm out of the box, which doesn't work for
the tecra at all).

is there any possibility left ?

thanks,
peter
