One potential problem I see is that libXxf86vm.a may not be built with -fPIC, and mixing code built with and without that can cause problems on most architectures except i386. But then IIRC libGL isn't built with -fPIC, and I think this is finally getting tackled in XFree86, so this may not be an issue at all.
