If todays game vendors do not supply sufficient backwards
compatibility with last years hardware, then they are not
that nice at all. They have created those compressed data
so they should be able to uncompress them for anybody.
But obviousely they dont want to do that service to the people.

I feel myselves like sounding a bit objective here. Sorry for that.

It would be nice to have a generic software converter for S3TC,
so that anybody can use it for whatever program it is needed.
Its just that there is nothing i can see which qualifies like that.
So if the problem cannot be solved in the mid layer for free
due to the sake of comercial rules - then the comercial front
and back end are rather more in duty to close for that case.

But will they do that in any future?
