If you had a lock per screen, and the server held the lock, but assumed
the hardware was accessed when VT switched away, then I belive you could
get this scheme to work.
Other things to consider:
1) Holding the lock will effectively lock out the 3D driver from
rendering. Over an extended period of time this might cause problems if
the application is allocating many buffers in anticipation of the lock,
and other X sessions are needing those same buffers.
2) The AGP resources from the AGP GART module are not a per screen
resource. Their may be assumptions in our drivers where we are assuming
a 1:1 mapping between the AGP resources and a single X session.
I'll be curious to hear what issues you find if you choose to persue
this functionality. Let us know.
