Yeah, but the radeon hardware may have caches for things that are automatic as part of its processing and they are probably more likely what is being referred to here if you've been reading ati docs. What I described was what the driver does to get textures from the app to where the hardware uses them and what it does when the set of textures grows bigger than the available card memory.
