Hello!

I have this lockups with quake3arena, too.
I found a temporary (and slow) workaround: disable
the use of OpenGL-extensions in the q3a-setup-menu.
Its strange, as I can remember that some people
reported they were using XFree 4.1.0 with the Radeon7500,
I wonder, didnt they play quake3?

What i tried:
I tried the "original SuSE XFree 4.2.0 RPMs"
which 3d-acceleration is mesa 3.4.2-based: lockups.
I tried the kernel-modul from trunk, from suse-XFree 4.2.0 RPMs,
and from tcl-0-0-branch, but it didnt help.
And I tried the dri-cvs trunk, which is mesa-4-based: lockups
I tried it with agpgart as modul and builtin_the_kernel.

The error mostly occurs, when you switch to the menu where
you can change your model or a few seconds after a match begins.
Then you can ssh to the machine,
top shows that quake3.x86 is eating up most of the cpu-power.
If you killall -KILL quake3.x86, the Xserver now "eats" the power.
When you killall -KILL X, the hdd does something, then the
machine is "dead" and doesnt even answer to a ping.

Some other programs I tried worked fine, but parsecdemo
(www.parsec.org) looks ugly. There are many/only rendering errors.
I remember (similary) rendering errors occured in parsec with
the voodoo3, but the error was fixed some month ago
(in the mesa-4-0-branch?)
When using the mesa-3.4.2-based SuSE-RPMs of XFree 4.2,
parsec looks good.

Could someone give me a hint which tests I should make ?
