There was a problem with the NVIDIA drivers and rpm.
Rpm would strip the driver (nvidia_drv.o) then X
couldn't load it. The fix for that was to tell
rpm not to strip the files.(the old version of rpm
didn't strip the files by default and it worked)

Probably should get a list of what is needed and what
can be striped. Would XF86 be the place to ask or
find it the hard way?
