ATI did the 2D driver development for the 8500/7500 in house, and 
contributed that to XFree86, which is in the CVS trunk now for 
some time.  I have tested it, and it works.

3D support is not yet available, however it will likely happen,
and be integrated at some point in the future.

Many thanks to ATI for supporting the Linux community by
developing the 2D drivers, etc. and allowing developers access to
required information needed for further work on other features 
of the hardware.
