Many All-in-Wonder (and I think some of the VIVO cards) included software
to do real-time MPEG-1 encoding. AFAIK none of them actually included
support in the chip for hardware MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 encoding. Unless I'm
mistaken, of course (which I may be), and that's what I think he is
referring to (like having the BT878 DMA into an offscreen region of video
RAM, then have a hardware MPEG encoder encode from the offscreen video
mem, and pull the encoded MPEG frames down from the card...). Of course,
if I'm correct, and the MPEG encoding is done in software anyway, his
point is moot.
