There is in one case that makes it interesting:
If the company sais that they are going to release the specs publicly
after some delay, say like 6 to 12 months, it would be a reason for me
to buy the card.
That is why I bought 3dfx, and if my machine was agp capable, I would
have upgraded to a voodoo5.
(BTW: anyone has some vsa-100 PCI cards for sale :) ).

In other words: if a company promises to release specs within a certain
amount of time, I can live with that, and buy the card.

That is the big reason that (new) nvidia cards won't enter my house :)
