There is a driver for the savage hardware in the old utah-glx project
(Xfree 3.3.x based). If you are feeling motivated, port it over to use
the dri. check out http://utah-glx.sourceforge.net Tim's savage driver
is just a 2D xfree driver. You'd have to write/port the savage 3D dri
stuff.

    hi folks,

i just made my first experience with mesa and 3d rendering stuff
i'm using an ibm t21 thinkpad that comes with above mentioned savage
    chip (pci id 8c12)
and now have xfree 4.1.0 and mesa libs 3.4.2 installed on it,
running
some of the mesa demos works but awfully slow :(
since only indirect rendering seems to be possible with the card.

so i want to ask here if it is currently possible to get direct
    rendering working on my machine
(well if so maybe some hints on how to do so)?

if not i would like to know what could be done to get this card
    supported...
on http://www.probo.com/timr/savage40.html the mx(mv??)/ix is told
to
    have the best 3d engine
of all savage chips, so i assume the hardware isn't a problem.

is the development of this savage driver by tim roberts somehow
related
to the work you guys do?

if there's something i could contribute to the project i'm willing
to do
    so
if it suits my skills and time schedules.
(i created an sourceforge account with id lefty)

    thanks,
       regards

    andreas
