You're saying that XFree86 4.0.x works with 2.2 DRM, however I
just asked this very question on dri-devel, and I am told that
4.0.3 DRM does not work with 2.2 except for the tdfx driver.

>From my understanding:

4.0.1 DRM and less works with 2.2.19
4.0.[23] DRM requires 2.4.x kernel for drivers other than tdfx
4.1.x DRM requires a 2.4.x kernel except for tdfx

Can someone who knows this stuff please categorically confirm or
deny the above assumptions because I am getting different
information from different sources and I tend to take
*@valinux.com or *@xfree86.org information as more accurate.

Or more directly: Is it possible to take a 2.2.19 kernel, take
4.0.3 sources - build ALL drivers, and build ALL DRM modules that
come with 4.0.3 and have them work with the 2.2.19 kernel.

I believe that answer to be no - only tdfx will work. If not,
then I have misunderstood the info I've been given.

My reason for asking all of this is because I wanted to release a
4.0.3 errata for Red Hat Linux 7.0, but if 4.0.3 DRI is not
functional with a 2.2.19 kernel with ALL DRI supported hardware,
then it is not possible to release 4.0.3 for RHL 7.0 as it
requires a 2.4 kernel.
