Yes, the "makewhatis" cron job kicks off on my home machine at prime
Unreal Tournament / Quake 3 Arena time (a little after midnight :o)
That produces exactly the symptoms you describe (although Quake 3 is
actually "playable" for low values of playable, under that load (!))
It is worth ruling that out as a cause if this was during daylight,
though, so it can be investigated further if there is a real problem.
