Hmm, in hunting down information about the problem, I came across this
thread. I'm experiencing the exact same problem that sct is --
machine just locks up hard. I've got a kernel built with kdb in hopes
that there was some useful information, but the lock is hard -- I
can't even get an interrupt down the serial port to get kdb up.
I'm using the dri that's in the xf86 kernel tree HEAD, so radeon dri
version 1.1.1. The hardware in question is:
GigaByte GA-7DX motherboard (AMD 761-based)
- device id 0x700f, which is currently not recognized by agpgart,
however I'm assuming that it's still basically an Irongate and
have been working with agp_try_unsupported=1; it initializes fine.
Can anyone confirm that this is okay?
Radeon 64MB DDR
1.333GHz Athlon
misc other stuff in box, SB Live! 5.1, ethernet card.
Same problem -- rarely, X comes up fine (never used it extensively,
so no idea if it would crash later on) but most of the time I either
get the X stipple with a really bad monitor sync, or my monitor
complaining that the 400Hz(!) vrefresh is bad.
I'm rebuilding X now with debugging symbols to see if the crash is in
the same place as sct's crash.
