As everyone is aware, Peter Dubin, an original DBFC member, has been very
ill and is facing serious medical procedures that will require a long and
painful recovery period. As with any procedure, Peter will require several
transfusions of blood during his operations.

However, Peter won't be the only person in the hospital requiring a blood
transfusion. Other people are scheduled for surgery at the same time and
will require blood. Some unfortunate souls will be involved in life
threatening accidents and will require many blood transfusions just have a
chance to survive.

The thing is that this same scenario plays out all around the country and
all around the world every single day. Literally tens of thousands of
gallons of blood are needed each day for those in serious need.

Let's do something about this...

Announcing the DBFC Blood Drive Club. We're looking for volunteers to step
forward and donate 1 pint of blood 1 to 6 times a year to help make sure
there will always be blood when it is most needed. Please contact me if you
can volunteer for this special club and give the gift of life.

We'll kick the Blood Drive off on Tuesday, January 9 and we are inviting all
members of the DBFC to participate. Contact the blood service in your
hometown and find out where you can make a donation.

Donations can be made every 2 months, so additional dates for 2001 will be:

        Friday, March 9
        Wednesday, May 9
        Monday, July 9
        Monday, September 9
        Monday, November 12

For those of you who are squeemish about donating blood, please trust me on
this...given today's technology, giving blood is both safe and painless. I
have given blood 6 times a year for the past 15 years and have yet to have
an experience where it has been painful in any way. The pride you will feel
when you have given blood will more than off-set any discomfort you may feel
while giving.

Just ask yourself this one question: Which do you fear most?

        1) Being stuck with a needle for 5 minutes, or
        2) There being no blood available as you or a loved one are wheeled
into emergency room.

Please let me know if you are interested in joining with the DBFC Blood
Drive Club...how close to 100% participation can we get! WE CAN DO THIS!!!
We'll try to come up with some nifty "prizes" for the different levels of
participation...

Laurin
