My name is Cale Sommers and I am interested in volunteering in
documentation. I live in Sacramento, CA and I am looking to become a
Technical Writer. I have my Bachelors Degree in Communication
Studies, but no experience as of yet. While reading about how to get
started as a Technical Writer, I found an article that I try
volunteering and that lead me to OppenOffice.org. I have alot of free
time so I am interested in jumping right in, though I am not sure
how. I will continue to read the modules and go from there.

Welcome to OpenOffice! An impressive skills list like this, coupled with plenty of free time, is definitely a useful resource for our project.

We have lots of tasks where you could be helpful. But, as a first step, please subscribe to the doc mailing list, or you will miss discussions and further answers: send an empty e-mail to [email protected] and reply to the confirmation request you will receive.

The main project we are working on at the moment is the User Guide. You can find draft pages at
http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/UserGuide
and, since it is a wiki, you can just register and start editing pages. Of course, for any major changes or more information please refer to this discussion list.

Regards,
  Andrea.
