Hi all, FWIW, the details can be found at:
* Erratum: https://www.rfc-editor.org/errata/eid6761 * Discussion thread: https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/msg/dnsop/irPsHwSSdoeMJdqzOjwm3oSz8CA/ It is not easy to dig into archives and find evidence about what was the intent at the writing time of draft-ietf-dnsop-onion-tld. Warren saved me some time (thanks) as he started that archaeology work (but also promised something in that thread ;-)). My conclusion from going through all the feedback in that thread, reading the document, threads related to draft-ietf-dnsop-onion-tld, RFC6761, etc. is that the OLD has an issue. Unless there are new elements since that discussion happened, I suggest the following: * Edit the erratum to use this text proposed by Robert Edmonds at the time: Corrected Text -------------- 5. Authoritative DNS Servers: Authoritative servers SHOULD NOT recognize .onion names as special and MUST NOT treat queries for .onion names differently from other queries. * Tag as Hold for future update Thank you.
