Every now and again people report this. It means your Python installation is somehow broken. The real test here is that "import hashlib" probably won't work at the interactive Python prompt. I don't know if this is a standard problem with the macports install or just one particular version or what, but the problem is with your Python installation and you should fix it before going any further.
