Okay, thks. It appears the Feisty django 0.96 backport is broken. Using synaptic, I removed django, then had to remove the django folder under python2.5 manually, then reinstalled - it only installs the symlinked portion /usr/lib/python-django and does not install any of the django libs under python2.5.
