Also, given my experience in the area of sessions, I don't believe I could translate your requirements into a consistent, backwards compatible and secure implementation (wrt. session fixation, etc.) Of course that doesn't mean it's impossible. At this point, I think you should write the code for a better API for sessions. This will give us a solid basis for discussing. It is certainly the best way to move forwards on this topic.
