If you'd like to mentor a Summer of Code project, you can apply through Google's web app right now. Please also add your name here: http://code.djangoproject.com/wiki/SummerOfCode2009 However, the quality of mentors is even more important than the quality of students, so we're going to be jerks this year about who gets to be a mentor. You don't need to have commit, but if you don't have a history of working with the project -- ideally a history of a year or more -- we probably won't accept your mentorship application. If you're not sure if you'd be accepted, please email me privately and I'll work through it with you.
