Hello SmartOS and greater-illumos communities!

Samsung/Joyent has decided to move their cloud technology strategy and usage
in a different direction. SmartOS and Triton will therefore be spun out of
Joyent, and move (along with the both of us: Brian and Dan) to MNX Solutions.

Long-time illumos fans will see some similarities between this and the 2017
spinning-out of OmniOS from OmniTI. There are two key differences, however:

1.) SmartOS and Triton, and SmartOS and Triton paid support, will have a new
home at MNX. Our existing customers are moving over. In other words,
there is no phasing out of full commercial support for SmartOS and
    Triton.

2.) Two SmartOS and Triton engineers: Brian Bennett and Dan McDonald ("we")
will be moving from Joyent to MNX.

What is more important about this news is what does not change:

- Paying customers will still have their support (and new paying customers
  can obtain support as well).

- SmartOS and Triton continue to be open-source under either CDDL or MPL 2.0.

- The SmartOS and Triton communities are still active, and we will continue
  engaging them.

- We, and the SmartOS community, will continue to be a strong illumos
distribution, with engagment continuing in both directions.

We are looking forward to our new home at MNX. MNX has already shown
dedication to the SmartOS and Triton communites with their providing of a
home to former Joyent Public Cloud customers in 2019. They will continue to
do so now they they are the home of SmartOS and Triton.

MNX has an FAQ: https://mnxsolutions.com/triton-faq
And so does Joyent: https://www.joyent.com/blog/triton-transition-faq

We hope you all follow along with us.

Thank you!
Brian Bennett & Dan McDonald
