sdparm is a nice tool. You can compile it without problems and I tried it but it lacks (or I have not found a way) to create/ display/ modify/ delete host protected areas. This seems a hdparm feature only. I can create a HPA now on Linux and Windows with tools from the SSD vendors but Solaris & Derivates is the Storage OS par excellence.
