hello, i am very new to the list, joined just a few days back. i am an omnios user and aspire to become an illumos developer soon.
the point of this email; i have been reading the content at wiki.illumos.org and found it to be quite good. the only problem is the fact that it's impossible to update the wiki from the text console using a text mode web browser like lynx. i had faced similar problems with smartos as well as omnios wikis and had suggested the following approach to leaders of both communities. the approach is to not have a traditional wiki but to instead have the content stored as markdown files in a code repository (mercurial!) which could then be exposed via a web interface. only registered users would be able to work on the content and upload it using repository management tools even from the text console. my original plan involved the usage of custom crafted html and css hosted as github pages. the markdown approach combined with mercurial is by eric sproul of omniti. (eric's enhanced approach feels a lot better). this would allow content creators to follow the regular unix way of doing things. ~mayuresh ------------------------------------------- illumos-discuss Archives: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/182180/=now RSS Feed: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/rss/182180/21175430-2e6923be Modify Your Subscription: https://www.listbox.com/member/?member_id=21175430&id_secret=21175430-6a77cda4 Powered by Listbox: http://www.listbox.com
