So did others, and those others eventually won.

4.0.1 (per the nexentastor.org page previously referenced) has had VAAI moved
into the open-sourceable repo.  This repo will be updated no later than when
4.0.1 GAs/FCSes/whatever-you-call-shipping.

Oh, this applies to SMB2 as well.  :)
