All of this talk about newbies reminds me of an important tip: Be nice to newbies. It's hard sometimes, I know. There's a bug open right now where I'm arguing a different way of solving a problem. A naive response would be to flame the original solution, ("I've been playing with this code a long time... blah blah blah"), but I really want to acknowledge the original discovery of the problem as valued as well. It's hard, because sometimes people think rejecting an implementation means rejecting the overall contribution. If our mailing lists are nice to newbies, it will help their respective communities grow.
