And how do you uncompress a .xz file on Solaris?

On the same site as the download there is a binary called xz that you can
download and use. You can also compile it from sources if you wish.

ftp://ftp.uni-ulm.de/mirrors/schillix/xz

Thanks, I missed it somehow.

I am trying to install it in a Virtual Box VM and it was apparently hanging. I set it up as a 64-bit Open Solaris environment. See the attached screenshot.

I let it sit there for a while and entered Ctrl-Alt-D and it prompted me saying: "Invalid input. Please input a number (1,2,...):". I input the number 1 and it went on to configure e1000g0 for DHCP and got me to a login prompt. There was probably some prompt that came out earlier for which I was supposed to do this input, but it was off the screen at that point.

Not exactly what I expected when trying to install. So be sure to download the installation docs to understand how to install it.

BTW - Joerg, can it support using a ZFS root file system? If so, you might want to update the docs to show how to do that. Right now they show how to do a UFS root file system.
