Was not the user forced to view the donate advertisement, that is what it is after all, an advertisement. The user of a display ad is not forced to click on it. A user could user an ad blocker to keep themselves from being 'insulted' by the advertisement (I assume as I do not use one), but if I understand correctly this would not turn off the donate advertisement.
