I have gotten several emails from people who want to post info into Freenet targeting China in the last couple of weeks.
I am happy to see new sites in Freenet, but I am afraid that end users may get in trouble because they overestimate the anonymity that the current system affords. I have been informed that merely running software that uses cryptography without furnishing back door keys to the government is a crime in China. I know that various approaches for "cloaking" have been discussed on this list in the past. My immediate concern is not solving the technical problem, but to provide frank information on the limitations of the current system. To that end could someone update the public web page with an appropriate warning. -- gj -- Web page inside Freenet: freenet:MSK at SSK@enI8YFo3gj8UVh-Au0HpKMftf6QQAgE/homepage// _______________________________________________ Devl mailing list Devl at freenetproject.org http://lists.freenetproject.org/mailman/listinfo/devl >From - Thu Apr 26 20:28:35 2001 Return-Path: <devl-admin at freenetproject.org> Received: from hawk.freenetproject.org (postfix@[4.18.42.11]) by funky.danky.com (8.9.3/8.8.7) with ESMTP id LAA17509 for <danello at danky.com>; Thu, 26 Apr 2001 11:59:10 -0400 Received: from hawk.freenetproject.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by hawk.freenetproject.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BE0015811A; Thu, 26 Apr 2001 09:40:08 -0700 (PDT) Delivered-To: devl at freenetproject.org Received: from gate.oierw.net (nic-163-c166-157.mn.mediaone.net [24.163.166.157]) by hawk.freenetproject.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C50875800A for <devl at freenetproject.org>; Thu, 26 Apr 2001 09:39:55 -0700 (PDT) Received: from mathew ([192.168.101.2] helo=phlemball) by gate.oierw.net with smtp (Exim 3.12 #1 (Debian)) id 14sozf-00071G-00 for <devl at freenetproject.org>; Thu, 26 Apr 2001 16:51:51 +0000 Message-ID: <033901c0ce6e$feb96060$0265a8c0 at phlemball> From: "Mathew Ryden" <[email protected]> To: "Freenet Devl" <devl at freenetproject.org> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.50.4133.2400 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.50.4133.2400 Subject: [freenet-devl] .freenetrc misconfiguration Sender: devl-admin at freenetproject.org Errors-To: devl-admin at freenetproject.org X-BeenThere: devl at freenetproject.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.0.3 Precedence: bulk Reply-To: devl at freenetproject.org List-Help: <mailto:devl-request at freenetproject.org?subject=help> List-Post: <mailto:devl at freenetproject.org> List-Subscribe: <http://lists.freenetproject.org/mailman/listinfo/devl>, <mailto:devl-request at freenetproject.org?subject=subscribe> List-Id: Discussion of information related to Freenet development <devl.freenetproject.org> List-Unsubscribe: <http://lists.freenetproject.org/mailman/listinfo/devl>, <mailto:devl-request at freenetproject.org?subject=unsubscribe> List-Archive: <http://lists.freenetproject.org/pipermail/devl/> Date: Thu, 26 Apr 2001 11:36:07 -0500
