are big positives but we need a way to timeout the code.

automate looking for them and pinging us.
Yes, some sort of a best before date for Newlib feature detection stuff
in configure.ac would be nice. I would make it at least six months.
Sometimes we have to force tool updates. If this happens, we can wipe
out all the tests at once.
