If you look at the method signature, you see that it does have a couple of
improvements over ioctl(). It has a buffer length and a way for drivers to
return a status separate from the method status.

But that would have to be propagated through the entire stack to be useful.
When I realized that, I just decided to heavily comment it and wrap ioctl().

FWIW I have a list of methods missing from the largest FACE profile. Many
are missing from newlib.
