Fair enough. I'll go ahead and update to the latest mainline, then
I'll test this patch. If you want to commit this in the meanwhile it's
fine for me if Joel thinks it's ok.

I don't have this hardware but it looked benign and fixing a bug
caused by recent timecounter changesto me.

FWIW I will wait until the morning to branch but think this patch
is OK and would like me or someone else to commit it if that's the
general consensus.

However (and forgive me for insisting on this so much), I'd still like
to know why we have to drop the HALCoGen formula. If we definitely
have to drop it, as a maintainer I'd appreciate a detailed comment
explaining why we did it.

That's a reasonable question.
