GCC 5.1 worked fine. I hope we can solve this issue within a new build system.

FYI .. Not suggesting we update 4.11 to this but wondering what known issues we
have with it.

We may want to switch to using this on the head after branching.

Subject: GCC 5.1 Release Candidate available from gcc.gnu.org

The first release candidate for GCC 5.1 is available from

  ftp://gcc.gnu.org/pub/gcc/snapshots/5.1.0-RC-20150412

and shortly its mirrors. It has been generated from SVN revision 222032.

I have so far bootstrapped and tested the release candidate on
x86_64-linux and i686-linux. Please test it and report any issues to
bugzilla.

If all goes well, I'd like to release 5.1 on Wednesday, 22nd.
