Furthermore, that email has not been completely without response. I
sent it before filing
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xdg/xdg-specs/-/merge_requests/116, and
that spec change proposal references that email. I believe my proposal
is what inspired this email chain, since Sebastian mentioned at
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xdg/xdg-specs/-/merge_requests/116#note_3546079
that he was going to mention this. So FreeDesktop is aware, and has
been responsive. There's still some discussion over what should be
done and where, but it looks to me like everyone involved is
interested in getting a working fix, even if there's some disagreement
about where that fix should be and what it should look like.
