While the CentOS/RHEL Go package will always slightly lag behind the upstream version due to the Go FIPS patches, RHEL is no longer pinning the Go version since 8.10/9.6/10.0 so ideally the lag won't be that much anymore -> https://access.redhat.com/articles/7116095
Regarding the new things breaking things, 100% true.
