I don't think that this enhancement is going to be implemented in the 7.0.x branch but the new resources implementation in 8.0.x (that replaces aliases and a number of similar features) supports read-write for the feature that replaced aliases. In 8.0.x they are read/write bu default with an option to make them read-only.
