An alternative idea would be to checkout another copy of svn, pointed at the version where you started. I do this all the time when I don't want to backtrack in my current working set.
I'm not sure what could be more productive than running the test suite against a stable baseline. Kick if off and go to lunch. That way, you can leave your existing patches intact and deal with that difference.
