The problem happens when you have context <Resource> tag in SERVER.XML. The problem doesn´t happens with you have a new <Realm> inside SERVER.XML. How I solved the problem: 1 - instead of inserting context information in SERVER.XML, I created myApplication.xml in conf\Catalina\localhost\myApplication.xml. The first approach work on tomcat 6, but not in tomcat 7. By the way, I solved the problem, I am afraid that the presence of additional context information in SERVER.XML crashes tomcat 7.
