I don't run Mac OS, but for our book Tomcat: The Definitive Guide, 2nd Edition, a couple of other Mac OS Tomcat users wrote a launchd script and the associated files (such as a .plist), and we wrote a section about it in the book. It's on page 32, Automatic Startup on Mac OS X. The section isn't very long, but shows how to use it. The real meat is in the files that are included in the book's examples archive here:
