The only security concern I see is "Don't run Apache Tomcat as a public web server unless you know what you are doing". I am 100% behind that. Replace Tomcat with "Apache httpd", "Micrsoft IIS" or any other public facing service and that statement still holds true. As for their other concerns, if they don't like Java then I don't think anything I or any other Tomcat dev is going to say will change their mind. That's fine. People are entitled to their opinion.
