Hi,
I'm packaging Tomcat in a commercial product and I was wondering if I
also had to package the NOTICE file.
This is covered by section 4 of the Apache License, Version 2. See
http://www.apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0.txt
If you need help interpreting it then you really should seek formal
legal advice from a lawyer.
With the caveats that:
- I am not a lawyer
- I am not speaking on behalf of the ASF
- I could be just making all of this up
Including Tomcat's NOTICE file in an appropriate place in your
distribution appears to me to satisfy section 4.d of the license.
Ok.
I was indeed also intending to distribute the NOTICE file.
The thing that made me ask this question was that fact that installing
Tomcat on a Windows through the "Windows Service Installer" package
*doesn't not* install the NOTICE file....
So... hmmm... if even the Tomcat Team doesn't redistribute the file, do
I have to do it...
That is a bug that is fixed in svn and will be in the next releases.
Mark
Ok. Thanks again for your help.
