If you want to do something productive, create an enhancement request in JIRA for commons daemon to work-around the Sun bug. As I said in a previous comment, all the pointers are there for a competent C coder to fix this. For the record, my C code sucks. If you want to do something *really* helpful, write a patch for commons-daemon that implements the necessary enhancement.
